Bach’s Cantata 140: Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme
Bring the whole family to celebrate the splendor of the holiday season with a concert of Bach works that will transport you from Baltimore to Leipzig, where Bach lived and worked from 1723 until his death in 1750. Bach composed the second part of the Christmas Oratorio for Christmas Day at the Thomaskirche where he was the cantor. Cantata 140 is also called Sleepers Wake and is regarded as one of Bach’s most famous and best-loved works.
