OUR MISSION
OUR MISSION
At Bach in Baltimore, we promote the greatest music of the Baroque era, we grow the next generation of listeners and performers of this music, and we have the time of our lives doing so.

Message from the President
My Dad loved classical music and appreciated every opportunity he had to hear it performed live. We rarely heard it played at home except when he acquired a favorite LP through the Columbia record Club (yes, I’m that old).
But it grew on me, and my love for the works of Telemann, Handel, Vivaldi, and Johann Sebastian Bach was renewed when my two sons played clarinet in the University of Milwaukee Youth Wind ensemble and the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra. I was hooked.
As my career took me across the Midwest, I enjoyed the “big sounds” of orchestras in Milwaukee, Chicago, and St. Louis but it wasn’t until we moved to Maryland three years ago that I found something different. Something smaller and more intimate—a blissful blending of orchestra and chorus played in local churches located in our city and surrounding towns. Like you, I discovered Bach in Baltimore.
Now despite what you may think after reading those first few paragraphs, this season isn’t about me. It isn’t even about our Founder and Music Director Herbert Dimmock, although it certainly could be.
this 2025-26 concert series marks the 38th season that Maestro Dimmock has led Bach in Baltimore. It is his baby. He founded it, nurtured it, directed it, rehearsed with it, donated to it, wrote grant requests for it, and did a hundred other things to get us to the point where he will —on June 7, 2026—step down as Maestro with the full confidence that our future will be brighter than our past.
We salute Maestro Dimmock, and will honor him as the season progresses, yet all the while reminding both ourselves and you that Bach in Baltimore is not all about Herb.
No, the 2025-26 season—like all 37 that have come before it and the next 37 (and more) that come after it—is entirely about you. it is about providing a cost-effective, live music experience in beautiful settings, performed by very accomplished musicians.

OUR 3 COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
Student Voice Exchange
Student Voice Exchange
We have created one of the most extensive music education programs in Maryland. The objective of the Student Voice Exchange Program is two-fold:
- To help students expand their musical literature and language knowledge, working with Maestro Dimmock
- To give students the chance to sing for a paying audience -either with our Choir and orchestra or alone
The immersive experience begins with Maestro Dimmock visiting the school and working with the students to prepare them for their performance. On the day of the performance, Maestro Dimmock provides a rare insight into Bach’s highly personal and nuanced musical language and a presentation of the selected works. The Student Voice Exchange group is invited to join the Bach in Baltimore Choir and orchestra in the performance of a select piece, or alternatively to perform a set of their own choosing. For our 2024-25 Season, six student groups have been selected as part of the Student Voice Exchange Program.
Community Outreach
Community Outreach
With generous support from the Mitzvah Fund for Good Deeds at the Baltimore community Foundation, this program is our commitment to give back to the elderly and bring great music into their local retirement communities. It represents up to 15 concerts each year, with a roster of 17+ local retirement communities across Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Howard County, Harford County, Anne Arundel County, Frederick County, and beyond. Concerts are free for senior residents, as well as staff and families.

Emerging artists
Emerging artists
The biggest challenge for emerging professional musicians is securing their first positions in a competitive field. With support from the Paul M. Angell Foundation, Bach in Baltimore proudly presents our Emerging Artists Program, designed to help recent graduates establish their careers.
Performance Opportunities: Musicians will have multiple performance opportunities throughout the season, including the First Sunday concert series and our Outreach Series in area retirement communities.
Resume Building: Each musician will be featured as a soloist in multiple works, enhancing their artistic resumes and CVs.
Professional Development: Maestro Dimmock, Founder & Music Director of Bach in Baltimore, will coach and mentor participants, offering his legendary knowledge of Baroque music. He will also facilitate introductions to other performing ensembles, crucial for career networking.
Bach in Baltimore is dedicated to sustaining the rich history of classical music and the performing arts for future generations.
