Bach in Baltimore announced today two holiday themed community concerts. Under the seasoned direction of its esteemed Maestro T. Herbert Dimmock, the Bach in Baltimore Choir and Orchestra will perform Season for Psalms on December 4 at 4 pm at the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, 7401 Park Heights Ave, Baltimore; and New Year Resolutions on January 1 at 4 pm at the Zion Lutheran Church, 400 E. Lexington Street, Baltimore. Both concerts will be offered live and live-streamed with tickets ranging from $5 to $35. Full details about our season, including a full outline of concert dates, venues, and pricing, can be found online at bachinbaltimore.org/concerts-tickets/.

The first holiday themed concert on Sunday, December 4 at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, welcomes people of all religious backgrounds to experience the profound poetry of psalms that span 500 years of history from the height of the Italian renaissance to the present day by seven distinguished composers. Giovanni Gabrieli’s polychoral wonder In Ecclesis is the oldest work on the program. The youngest composer featured is the 21st– century composer Ben Ellerin, the cantor and music director at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, whose composition Psalm Work will receive its world premiere. At the center of the program is Leonard Bernstein’s 20th-century polytonal masterpiece Chichester Psalms. Composed in 1963, the work specifically combines text from different cultural and choral traditions, displaying brilliantly its composers hopes for worldwide peace and brotherhood.

Then, on Sunday, January 1 at Zion Lutheran Church, Bach in Baltimore hosts its annual New Year’s Day concert, ringing in 2023 with rousing and invigorating pieces by Bach and Handel. Handel’s graceful Oboe Concerto in G Minor will be paired with two Bach Cantatas: Cantata 32: Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen (Dearest Jesus, my desire), which portrays a dialogue between Jesus and a Christian believer’s soul, and Cantata 124: Meinen Jesum laß ich nicht (I will not let go of my Jesus) that dramatizes the desire of the believer to become one with God. Featured artists for this concert include Kate Vetter Cain, soprano; Tanya Ruth Langlois, alto; Hakeem Henderson, tenor; and Brian Ming Chu, bass.

Individual adult tickets ($28-$35), Student tickets ($10 with Student ID), children’s tickets ($5), streaming on-demand ($15 and up), and cost-saving Passes—including the Full Season Pass ($299) and Mini Pass ($95)—are now available for purchase at BachinBaltimore.org or by calling 410-941-9262.
