BEETHOVEN’S 5TH

From its iconic four-note opening to its triumphant finale, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 is one of history’s most powerful and recognizable masterpieces, tracing a dramatic journey from struggle to victory.
Performed by the enormously talented Kathryn Farenish, Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G major, opens the program. The concerto highlights Mozart’s gift for lyrical and playful melodies. Composed in 1778, the three movement work features a grand and stately first movement. The graceful second movement is comprised of a warm string accompaniment allowing the solo flute to spin beautiful melodies.  The energetic finale is a rondo styled like a dance. Together, these Classical masterpieces celebrate the brilliance, innovation, and enduring genius of Mozart and Beethoven.With the participation of Maryland State Boychoir, Stephen Holmes, Director
