Bálint Karosi is an internationally acclaimed conductor, organist, and educator whose career has been devoted to the performance, interpretation, and renewal of Johann Sebastian Bach’s musical legacy. A First Prize winner of the International J. S. Bach Competition in Leipzig, he has performed Bach’s complete organ works in recitals throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, and is equally recognized for his interpretations, compositions and Baroque-style improvisations. As a conductor and artistic leader, he founded the Boston Bach Birthday Festival and the Saint Peter’s Bach Collegium in New York, and has directed Bach festivals, ensembles, masterclasses, and educational programs with organizations including the American Bach Society, the Bachfest Leipzig, the Charlotte Bach Festival, the Baldwin Wallace Bach Festival, the Bach Society of Minnesota, the Purcell Choir, and the Hungarian National Radio Chorus and Orchestra. His work as Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, and his keyboard harmony and Baroque improvisation class for organists at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, reflect his lifelong commitment to bringing Bach’s music to performers, congregations, students, and audiences alike.
