EMERGING ARTISTS

Bach in Baltimore is Proud to Launch New Program

PROGRAM MISSION & GOALS

Arguably the biggest challenge facing professional musicians as they leave universities and conservatories is securing their first professional positions in a famously competitive, crowded field – especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.  With generous support from the Paul M. Angell Foundation, Bach in Baltimore is thrilled to announce our sophomore Emerging Artists Program! This program is designed to help recent music graduates establish their professional careers through the following objectives:

1. Performance Opportunities with an Established Concert Series

The Emerging Artists Program will afford each musician multiple performance opportunities throughout the 2023-24 Season. Some of these performances will be on the First Sunday subscription concert series – given with a full professional orchestra and paying audience.

Emerging Artists will also perform concerts of arias and art-song in area retirement communities as part of Bach in Baltimore’s established Outreach Series. Through these concerts, artists will be given the opportunity to design and present programs in areas of particular interest to them, affording them unique chances to build their programming resumes and employ their individual creativity in a supportive environment.

2. Build Artistic Resumes & CVs for Future Opportunities

The flip side of the coin of finding all-too-often scarce performance opportunities is the building of a compelling artistic resume. In addition to listing multiple works on their resumes in which they were a featured soloist, each musician will have the cache of having been selected out of a large field into a program produced by a long-standing and prestigious concert series.. Each musician will be able to list multiple works in which they were a featured soloist. Additionally, for those musicians who wish to pursue a niche of special interest to them, Bach in Baltimore will make program choices to help enable that pursuit.

3. Cultivation of Professional Relationships

The final leg of the three legged stool of establishing a new career is finding and building professional relationships which will lead to additional work. An important component of this program will be coaching provided by Maestro Dimmock, Founder & Music Director of Bach in Baltimore. Maestro Dimmock has performed more than 160 Bach Cantatas, and all of the large Bach works (both choral & instrumental). He has led performances of nearly every choral work of Handel, and his knowledge of Baroque musical language is legendary. He will coach and mentor the Emerging Artists as part of the year-long program. Maestro Dimmock will also facilitate introductions to other performing ensembles, as such networking is a key element of any young singer’s career-building.

Bach in Baltimore has identified 8 promising Emerging Artists who we will feature as part of our 35th Anniversary Season – so stay tuned for their concert introductions! It is our hope that, through this program, we will be able to continue to provide opportunities for up-and-coming musicians in an expanded way in the wake of the pandemic, share fresh new voices with the diverse audiences of the Greater Baltimore area, and be a part of sustaining the rich history of classical music and the performing arts for generations to come.

Welcome our 2023-2024 Emerging Artists
